KUALA LUMPUR, 1 June – UEM Edgenta Berhad (“UEM Edgenta”), via its wholly-owned subsidiary, Opus International (M) Berhad (“Opus”), is pleased to announce its acceptance of Letters of Award as the lead consultant for pavement design optimisation for the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project (the “Project”). The contract was awarded by Borneo Highway PDP Sdn Bhd (“BHP”), the project delivery partner, for a value of RM60.7 million over a duration of 4 years.
UEM Edgenta’s role as lead consultant to BHP would entail the provision of strategic and technical support; including but not limited to pavement design review and optimisation for the Project, which includes a study on new asphalt mix options.
The pavement structure is a significant value component of the highway asset. Hence, the design optimisation which entails the application of advanced technology and innovative asset management principles by UEM Edgenta, would enhance the economic life of the Pan Borneo Highway, as well as reduce maintenance costs for the asset owner over time.

“Our ability to optimise cost for asset owners via pavement design assessment and optimisation capabilities, is the realisation of research & development work that has been carried out at UEM Edgenta’s Pavement Research Centre (“PRC”)”, he further added.
UEM Edgenta has invested over RM2.0 million in the PRC, which commenced operations in August 2017 with the objective of exploring and developing new asphalt mixes and innovative techniques for pavement research and development. With the PRC, UEM Edgenta will be able to reduce material costs and thereon offer cost-efficient solutions to our clients.
