Full Release: Kuala Lumpur, 24 August – In its aim to build industry resilience, UEM Edgenta Berhad (“UEM Edgenta”) has reinforced its support for national recovery efforts through its sustainable and innovative healthcare solutions, namely QuickMed, which is the key enabler for the nation’s first Private COVID-19 Assessment Centre (“CAC”) at the UEM Edgenta Learning Centre (“UELC”) in Petaling Jaya.
QuickMed is a cloud-based digital healthcare solution that aims to improve the accessibility and quality of healthcare by bridging the gap between healthcare service providers and the public. This will be through an intelligent healthcare platform accessible via mobile devices, which offers GP clinics an alternative to primary healthcare management systems.
Jointly launched recently with UEM Edgenta’s first digital ecosystem platform – Edgenta NXT, QuickMed has moved quickly to join in the COVID-19 fight by enabling bookings for drive-through COVID-19 swab tests at two facilities in Petaling Jaya, including one housed at the UELC. The platform has been put to test recently by assisting companies managing mass contactless COVID-19 screening programmes and for patient registration at UELC’s Private CAC.
The fully operational Private CAC, a collaboration between UEM Edgenta and U.n.i.Klinik, has been timely as the Ministry of Health (“MoH”) Malaysia has urged the public to proceed to the nearest CAC in their area to avoid congestion at CACs that were established earlier. Falling under the Petaling Health District, UELC’s Private CAC has been servicing the public since 16 July 2021.
“We firmly believe that healthcare solutions must be planned and sustainably implemented for the long-term. We are therefore pleased to be able to continue our support in this fight against COVID-19 with QuickMed, our in-house digital healthcare management platform, especially following the recent surge of daily cases, with the highest being in Selangor. We are also grateful to be able to extend our quick and scalable services at the Private CAC in order for the public to have an additional CAC to turn to should they require assistance,” said Syahrunizam Samsudin, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Edgenta, who hosted an official visit to the Private CAC for Dato’ Mohd Shafiq bin Abdullah, Secretary-General, MoH Malaysia, Dato' Dr. Chong Chee Keong, Deputy Director General (Public Health), MoH Malaysia, Dato' Indera Dr. Sha'ari bin Ngadiman, Selangor State Health Director, MoH Malaysia as well as other MoH officials.
In his remarks at the event, Dato’ Mohd Shafiq said efforts in developing home-grown technology for the healthcare industry should be viewed as an important strategic contribution to the national economy.
During the visit, guests were able to obtain a first-hand look at the Private CAC facilities including the screening services and state-of-the-art equipment that UEM Edgenta has deployed to support the country in its ongoing fight against the pandemic.
The Private CAC currently provides a full suite of screening services, including COVID-19 assessments, home quarantine programme, quarantine release order, and drive-through swab tests as well as walk-in screening tests. COVID-19 patients will be assessed before they are sent to hospitals, COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres, or undergo quarantine at home.
Dr. Mohamad Afif Fauzan bin Embong, Project Director of U.n.i KLINIK, said, “This Private CAC is the first of its kind in Malaysia and we are confident it will cater to the surrounding residents in the Petaling district complemented with exemplary customer service to ease the assessment process. We humbly extend our gratitude to UEM Edgenta for converting one of its strategically located facility in this district and we hope this will be able to help more COVID-19 patients getting the assistance that they need.”
Recently, UEM Edgenta was also awarded a 16-month Home Quarantine Monitoring System (“HQMS”) contract by MoH to be deployed at seven COVID-19 Assessment Centres and seven District Health Offices in the Klang Valley and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. UEM Edgenta will be supplying 30,000 units of Radio-Frequency Identification (“RFID”) tracking tags to MoH which will enable a continuous 24-hour a day monitoring. The Passive Monitoring and Active Surveillance Services programme will ensure full compliance to the quarantine order with local ecosystem partners such as Armadillo Safety Sdn. Bhd. and Envotech Sdn. Bhd.
The convenient and hassle-free Private CAC is also equipped with a Polymerase Chain Reaction (“PCR”) mobile lab, also known as Mobile On-Site Testing Facility (“MOSTFAC”), an initiative by UEM Edgenta and its partners to assist the Government in ramping up PCR testing by deploying mobile facilities that enables quick detection of COVID-19, as well as in the management of HQMS via the RFID e-bracelets.
Since the start of the pandemic, UEM Edgenta has played a key role in supporting national recovery efforts by introducing various sustainable healthcare initiatives, including the development of a cloud-based Epidemic Management System in the National Crisis Preparedness & Response Centre (“CPRC”) for MoH and at the same time a field hybrid ICU (“FHyICU”) to assist in capacity management at selected public hospitals. The Company has also introduced a holistic suite of COVID-19 business solutions focused on workplace safety and health to assist the Government and corporate entities in combating the pandemic.
UEM Edgenta has been regarded by its clients as a capable home-grown healthcare solutions provider that develops long-term solutions for today and tomorrow in line with its ultimate vision to optimise assets and improve lives.
As a Khazanah-owned company, UEM Edgenta fuels its Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) ambition by partnering with entities that can help support the Government, including MoH, in not only managing the current recovery efforts but also future challenges. Powered by technology and data, UEM Edgenta aims to augment the national healthcare infrastructure with systems, technology and products that can help to build a more resilient public health infrastructure with MoH.
