Full Release: Kuala Lumpur, 2 April 2020 – UEM Edgenta Berhad (“UEM Edgenta” or the “Company”), the region’s leading Asset Management and Infrastructure Solutions company, is supporting the Malaysian Government’s efforts in combating the growing COVID-19 pandemic in the country by pledging vital healthcare equipment and systems to be installed at hospitals and quarantine centres nationwide.

Focusing on the Company’s areas of expertise in biomedical equipment and healthcare technology, UEM Edgenta will be donating the use of 30 units of newly procured ventilators and is in the midst of acquiring 30 units of patient monitoring systems for the Ministry of Health (“MOH”). The Company has identified mobile ventilators and patient monitoring systems which meet MOH’s technical specifications to allow for easy deployment of these assets at the front lines. UEM Edgenta anticipates the equipment to be ready for deployment this month.

In addition to vital biomedical equipment, the Company is also providing MOH and the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (“CPRC”) a cloud-based healthcare information system to connect all hospitals and quarantine centres nationwide to efficiently administer critical resources. The system, developed in partnership with Meridian Project Management Sdn. Bhd. (“Meridian”), can be deployed immediately as it leverages on the MOH’s existing Blood Bank Information System (“BBIS”) currently being used at 22 transfusion centres including National Blood Centres nationwide. The system will feature a scalable platform which has been customised to provide the essential functionalities required to manage inventory and resources from multiple sites.

The contributions were presented by UEM Edgenta’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azmir Merican to Minister of Health, YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Adham bin Baba at a ceremony held in Putrajaya today.

“Our long-standing partnership with MOH through the provision of hospital support services gives us better insight of the immediate needs in the current situation. We are contributing vital equipment, including ventilators and patient monitoring systems to support MOH and CPRC in boosting its capabilities. We are also pleased to provide MOH and CPRC with a system to connect hospitals and quarantine centres which will allow real-time monitoring and efficient administration of its resources across the country”, said Dato’ Azmir Merican, at the event.

He continued to add that the cloud-based system’s features include hospital capacity utilisation (beds, ICUs and equipment, e.g. ventilators); personal protective equipment utilisation (inventory management); manpower resource utilisation (front line staff); laboratory utilisation (test kits) and patient management (admission, transfer, and discharge of COVID-19 positive and patients under investigation).

UEM Edgenta, through its wholly owned subsidiaries operating under the Company’s Healthcare Support Division, Edgenta Mediserve Sdn. Bhd. (“EMSB”) and Edgenta UEMS Sdn. Bhd. (“Edgenta UEMS”), continues to work closely with MOH at 32 hospitals in Northern Peninsular Malaysia, delivering essential non-clinical hospital support services, including cleansing, sanitisation & disinfection, linen & laundry, clinical waste management and portering, among other critical functions hospitals attending to COVID-19 patients require to operate safely and effectively.

Dato’ Azmir added, “In Malaysia alone, we have over 5,000 employees involved in delivering essential services daily throughout this period, primarily our healthcare support service front liners, together with highway maintenance operations and facility management teams. We continue to prioritise the safety and health of our people through stringent procedures at the workplace, implementing split operations to ensure efficient delivery through mobilising compact and well-equipped teams to cater to the lower volume and capacities on the roads and at facilities we manage”.

Apart from Malaysia, UEM Edgenta also manages hospitals and healthcare facilities in Singapore, Taiwan and India, providing similar critical services at the front lines across more than 300 facilities.
