Full Release: Kuala Lumpur, 15 November – UEM Edgenta Berhad (“UEM Edgenta” or “the Company”) wishes to deny the baseless allegations made towards the Company’s wholly owned subsidiary operating under its Healthcare Support Division, Edgenta UEMS Sdn. Bhd. (“Edgenta UEMS”) in an article published on Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (“PSM”) website titled “Pekerja pembersihan hospital yang sepatutnya dikuarantin diarahkan majikan untuk terus bekerja”, dated 14 November 2020.
The Company strongly denies the allegations of mistreatment of its employees and would like to confirm that three of its healthcare support services (“HSS”) employees stationed at Bukit Mertajam Hospital in Penang have safely completed their COVID-19 testing with their results all returning as negative.
Adhering to strict protocols administered by the authorities, the three employees were not quarantined as they did not have close contact with positive COVID-19 patients and were equipped with personal protective equipment (“PPE”) while carrying out their duties. The COVID-19 testing was to provide additional assurance and safety to all three employees due to the Company’s strong emphasis on safety and health throughout its business operations.
UEM Edgenta continues to adhere to the application of infection control procedures and protocols set by each hospital’s Operations Team (
Bilik Gerakan), as well as the infection control personnel in charge before determining isolation and testing requirements of its employees at the hospitals which Edgenta UEMS provides its services. The Company’s HSS employees are dedicated front liners against COVID-19 and it is imperative to provide the true and correct narrative amidst this pandemic. Let’s protect them instead of demotivating and causing unnecessary confusion amongst all parties who have worked very hard to ensure the healthcare and front line workers’ welfare is protected at all times.
Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, UEM Edgenta has implemented strict procedures to safeguard the health and safety of its employees delivering hospital support services to the Ministry of Health Malaysia, including the use of prescribed PPE, temperature screening and to inform the management should any exhibit of symptoms occur. As a public listed company, UEM Edgenta is determined to ensure we continuously engage with our key stakeholders relating to matters which impact the Company’s brand and reputation in the market. Any further updates related to this matter will be communicated through our website (
