Full Release: Kuala Selangor, 13 December – To ease the burden of underprivileged students, as well as their parents, UEM Edgenta Berhad (“UEM Edgenta” or the “Company”) was present in Kuala Selangor today to organise the distribution of back-to-school items which will benefit 216 primary and secondary students entering the 2020 school term.
The 2020 ‘Riang Ria’ Back-to-School programme is part of the Company’s annual Corporate Responsibility initiative in providing school-related items such as uniforms and school bags to 216 students from schools within the district of Kuala Selangor, specifically in the areas of Bukit Melawati, Ijok and Jeram.
Overall, the number of recipients of this programme, which benefits its key external and internal stakeholders has expanded over the years. From 2016 to 2018, UEM Edgenta had participated in this programme under the umbrella of its parent company, UEM Group Berhad, whereby a total of 25,785 underprivileged children had benefitted from this programme. For the year 2020 school term, the Company have identified a total of 1,100 students to benefit from this initiative.
“Our support for the communities in programmes such as this is aimed at easing the parents’ burden and we also hope that it will further motivate the children and inspire them to do their best in school. We will continue our corporate and social responsibilities efforts which is focused on providing education-related assistance. As a technology company, our efforts will go beyond philanthropy, as we are also keen to partner and support communities in the area of nurturing our future generation in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), robotics and artificial intelligence,” said Dr. Nik Fawaz Nik Abdul Aziz, Chief Operating Officer of Healthcare Support (Concession), Edgenta Mediserve Sdn Bhd at the back-to-school programme event at the Dewan Dato’ Penggawa Permatang, Kuala Selangor.
The ‘Riang Ria’ Back-to-School Programme is just one of many ongoing education and community-based programmes undertaken by UEM Edgenta. Since 2016, UEM Edgenta has invested RM1.64 million in community engagement and charitable activities with education being its core focus.
In addition to ‘Riang Ria’ Back-To-School programme, the Company also organised motivational camps, UPSR seminars in several lower-band schools and mentoring on STEM workshops focusing on coding, circuitry and robotics. Recently, UEM Edgenta funded the Robotics Team from Pusat Genius@Pintar Negara, UKM who represented Malaysia at the World Robot Olympiad 2019 in Gyor, Hungary as part of the Company’s commitment to inspire and promote STEM.
Previously, the Company had also facilitated a refurbishment drive at SK Tan Sri P. Ramlee in Penang, as well as participated in programmes organised by PINTAR Foundation and Yayasan Amir trust, among others.
